What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the art of finding solutions under pressure. It teaches you to remain calm in stressful situations and solve problems using leverage, timing, and technique — instead of relying on brute strength, power, or resistance.
A smaller, weaker person can effectively defend themselves against a much larger, stronger opponent by understanding body mechanics, balance, and positioning. It is not about overpowering an opponent — it's about neutralizing conflict intelligently.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the Gentle Art — a healing, non-violent path to strength, awareness, emotional balance, and self-defense. We teach it with harmony, compassion, and the power of Verbal Jiu-Jitsu™, so our students can live safer, calmer, and more confident lives.
Led by Professor Sérgio Silva, a 5th-degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Black Belt in Judo, and former World Champion of Submission Wrestling, our academy embodies the authentic spirit and discipline of the world's most effective martial art.
Professor Silva began training BJJ in 1992 in Curitiba, Brazil, started competing in 1994, and earned victories across Brazil, Canada, and the United States. In 2000 he moved to the Bay Area and began teaching as an assistant instructor at the Gracie Academy in San Francisco.

We are one of the few schools in the Bay Area teaching a full Verbal Jiu-Jitsu™ program, designed to help students resolve conflict before it becomes physical. Students learn to defend themselves through emotional intelligence and communication — not force.
